Yule Lore (December 21st)

Yule is when the dark half of the year relinquishes to the light half. Starting the next morning at sunrise, the sun climbs just a little higher and stays a little longer in the sky each day. Known as Solstice Night, or the longest night of the year, much celebration was to be had as the ancestors awaited the rebirth of the Oak King, the Sun King, the Giver of Life that warmed the frozen Earth and made her to bear forth from seeds protected through the fall and winter in her womb. Bonfires were lit in the fields, and crops and trees were "wassailed" with toasts of spiced cider.

December 18

Greetings! I'm glad to have rounded the corner and am feeling much better. I also look forward to the days becoming longer, and the sun creeping a little higher over our back woods! We avoided the ice storms that much of the Northeast was hit with, but did get quite a bit of snow. Windy today, but there was a bit of sun, and Sunday I went on my first snowshoe outing in our back woods and loved it. When Paul got home from work yesterday, we strapped them on again and did a few rounds of our yard (it was dark...and the yard is big!). Sleds and skis are out...now all we need is time. Fourteen new shopping carts created this week...welcome to you all!

My blanket is coming along nicely and I've decided to knit up a couple pair of wrist warmers for my boys...better get going! Still a bit of shopping to do, but I did get most of it done this week...and sent out three more custom bags on Monday. This year, instead of my usual baking for the neighbors/friends, I've decided to make up a huge batch of granola and will hand that out instead. This way folks can enjoy it well into the New Year!

Just six bags tonight, but it's the best I could do along with all the holiday festivities (and custom sewing). I won't be listing next week, but will focus on the family, take time (and do a few more custom bags) but will be back in full swing January 1st. It's been another great year for me, I've enjoyed doing business with all of you and send along my heartfelt thanks.
Here's to time, reflection, family and peace.

Warm Holiday Regards,
Martha.
