Soups, nests, moons, hats and mountain tops.....

Greetings! And a very happy birthday to my mom who's 83 today! She and a friend stopped in for lunch and we had a brief, but fun celebration. We're all trying to get used to the shorter days, so far I'm okay with it but I know a few people who want nothing more than to curl up and sleep. I think just having had the full moon helped me as I didn't mind it getting dark knowing the moon would rise.... and I, like always, enjoyed my full moon walks. We were lucky to have beautiful clear nights.
Well I started and finished Paul's hat! Started it last Thursday and finished it up on Sunday! It really is a pretty pattern, and he did choose stunning colors, but there were a lot of wraps along the way (I wrap if carrying 5 or more stitches) so when it was done I decided not to knit it again. But Paul loves it, and the fit is perfect. Isn't it a wonderful thing when our knitting turns out like that? The next day Taylor popped in to say hi... he saw the hat and loved it! And... it fit him perfectly too. So yes.... another is on the needles, same colorway... though I'll be sure to change up the tassels! And honestly, I'm always delighted to knit for my boys. Here's the pattern if you're interested in making one :)

The leaves are off the trees now, and although the color is gone I always enjoy spotting the bird's nests that were hidden all summer. Paul has started to fill the feeder and the Chickadees are going crazy (! ) along with all chipmunks and squirrels which we happily feed along with anything else that may be hungry.

Snow is on the mountain tops! My family has a tradition of climbing Camels Hump (as seen from the bottom of our driveway) every Thanksgiving morning... but not me as I'm always too busy in the kitchen! It's a great hike for those who do go and any friends/neighbors who join along. I also had to snap a shot of Mt. Mansfield .... how pretty is my ride to Northeast Fiber Arts??!!
I cleaned out the fridge and made a great Fall soup, love soups this time of year. I sauteed onions, leeks, mushrooms, garlic, zucchini, carrots and a red pepper. Salt/pepper a bit of rosemary... cooked it down, added chix stock, simmered some more and then pureed it... and finished it off with some whipping cream. Grilled some sweet sausage on the grill, cut it up to top the soup. We both enjoyed it.

Enjoy tonight's bags~ It was a busy week... I have 3 custom bags going out tomorrow and 3 to do over the weekend. Shown here is a sweet little bag housing a mitten project, I wanted you to get an idea of what it would hold. It's a little sweetie, but the mitten project is cozy in there as would be a small shawl project... or hat, or socks.... Also shown is a vintage button. It's a favorite of mine and I have no idea what its made of... bone? I don't know, but it's a fascinating button that changes in the light, showing different shadows and depth.

I really want to finish up my green cabled mittens (I'm SO close) and give thought to finalizing my holiday knitting. Till next week, stay well and knit on good women!
