September 17
Greetings! What a fast week! Fall is in the air for sure, cold nights and much shorter days. We're still getting out for our after dinner bike rides to the pond, but are having to do so sooner and know it'll come to an end before too long. Pretty color is showing up already, especially the swamp Maples which turn early. I pick up more handles tomorrow and this time he added a couple of new woods along with the much loved Maple & Cherry, can't wait to see!
It's interesting how our projects sometimes come to be, isn't it? I saw a great pattern for seahorse mittens made with color changing yarn, really fun and the possibilities of color play is endless. Picked out two sock yarns that I thought would work well together, and although I do love them together, once I started the design, it was totally lost as the two yarns, in places, were too similar. The pattern had a feather & fan cuff... and as much as I love feather & fan, I don't want it for the base of a mitten. So I started with the two yarns in a K1, P1 ribbing, using each color, and well.... I love it, so much so that I'm going to do the entire mitten that way, figuring the pattern as I go.
The 22nd will be our 25th wedding anniversary, so Paul and I are off to Nantucket! We honeymooned there, and brought the kids when they were little, but haven't been back in quite a few years.... so we're really excited. We'll bring our bikes, fishing poles and books, and needless to say, my knitting :) We leave Saturday morning (early) and return on Wednesday. I've put a few bags aside , and will no doubt be back in my studio Wednesday night so I won't miss next week. Bags purchased and paid for will be sent out tomorrow. The rest will be sent along with next weeks bags. I don't have much room for packing (we get to the island with bikes and backpacks) so I think I'll bring the 2 or 3 mitten projects I want to finish up. Once I get them packed, along with all notions..... then I'll think about clothes ;)
I know many of you are the same way!
When we get back we'll be doing our apple picking and maybe catch a harvest festival, such a beautiful time of year here in Vermont. I've added some extra photos here tonight as so often the little details of the bags can't get shown, and they're worth sharing! Notice the way wonderful 'sunburst' on the handles of tonight's Nan Bag, and the button from one of the Demi Mansfield's... it's my favorite color! And I really wanted to keep it but, as is often the case.... it was just too pretty with the fabric. And as I know my bags go to good soulful women, I know it'll be appreciated.
So... see you next week! I'll return rested, having finished another book, I'll be relaxed, another pair of mittens will be completed (maybe two) maybe I'll be tan... and I know I'll be looking forward to another 25 years (or more) with the great guy I'm blessed to share my life with......
Hope you're well good women...... let's knit on~
Martha.
