I like old things. I like them a lot, I always have. I like finding them, and especially using them. For whatever reason, as far back as I can remember I've felt a deep connection to the past. Maybe it's because things were made well, made with pride we rarely see today... unless we look. I suppose it reminds me of what, I would think, was a simpler time. But was it any more simple than now? If I asked a woman in 1948 if she thought her life was simple, would she say yes? The hardships and struggles life can bring were just as real, of course they were. Perhaps more simple really means less ... fast. It was certainly busy, always a lot to do, but I'd like to think it was slower. I suppose it's because I can look at today and compare with the past, and I guess that same woman could look back in time and say the same thing too ..... So maybe I like old things simply because they make me stop, and pause, and reflect a little bit.... and just feel good that I'm using, and valuing, something that was made well and otherwise would no doubt end up discarded.... when so much value was left.
Not much time for knitting this week (though I always find some time)! Worked on custom bags over the weekend, and on tonight's listings. Woody came out only one day this week, the dentist (and some time with his brother) took his other day. We had a good chat about his wanting to get a good supply of wood, and to take a day to get everything ready to turn... so his time is more efficient. I had to smile... because that's what I've learned to do over time with my work. It creates a flow and steady balance into accomplishing what we hope, week after week..... and I love to see him working into that as well. He tried something new for this week and the outcome is lovely! Quite a few emails came in requesting more stilettos ... yes, he will be making more....
I'm taking a class at Northeast Fiber Arts on Saturday. My friend Betsy called to remind me (and to sign me up)... it's to make one button with our talented friend Kerin Rose whose jewelry is stunning. I'm not exactly sure what the class entails, but I do know time in a yarn shop with women I love and admire is time well spent.
I want to make some changes to the About the Bags Page this week... it occurred to me that categorizing the bags by size might make it easier for women unfamiliar with them. And I'm picking up a new batch of handles... look for a very exciting surprise next week!
Okay all, thanks for being here. It's cool, windy and rainy... but cozy inside as I type, type type......

Till next week...... do knit on, good women,
Martha.
