515 SOUTH WILLARD STREET:
THESE WALLS WON’T
HOLD US FORVER

Paul,
remember what Brian said.
if you close the skylight too fast
the glass
will shatter.

melting snow will drip through
and puddle beside the dog’s bed.

perhaps you wanted the glass to break,
and that’s why you swung the pane shut
like the arching oscillation of a Greek God’s hammer.

with the splintered glass glittering on the linoleum
and the outdoor elements dancing gracefully on the wind
onto our countertops,
you saw for the first time
that these walls could not hold us.
